    Re: 2020 NAMM Show Report

Hey Steve, glad to have you back building mandolins. Flatirons were an big part of my interest in the Mandolin coming up. I may have missed this somewhere, but will the Zeta mandos be X braced? Will...

I was rooting hard for the Po Ramblin boys but congratulations to Michael Cleveland.
  3. Re: “one announcement we're privy to that will rock the industry”

Steve Carlson is as big as they get from a Mandolin historian's point of view. Not only are Flatirons a household name for mandolin players, but his company helped put Gibson back on the right path...

    Re: 2020 NAMM Show Report

Thank you so much for the fantastic news. Steve is one of my heroes. I love the Flatiron Story and am excited for him to get back to the mandolin world! There was a void without him.

Re: Thoughts on the Gibson F9?

I had a 2002 F9 earlier in my playing career and lived it but let it slip away. I recently bought an 02 A9 which also had that great sound but I found the frets to be small in comparison to my...

    Gibson Jam Master Questions

Its that time again where I get the MAS for a Gibson F and can't seem to scratch it. I have read through all the old threads about the Gibson Jam Master and decided to do a little more research on...
  15. Re: Ebay Ratliff Mandolin Ads - Why is there little interest?

I am partial to F style like most, but I can tell you sound wise there is no difference. I have had F9 & A9 Gibson from the same year that sounded exactly alike. You can actually get a better...
  16. Re: Ebay Ratliff Mandolin Ads - Why is there little interest?

Mine had that custom finish and it looks really nice. The gloss on it stands out in contrast the the back and sides that are a satin finish.
  17. Re: Ebay Ratliff Mandolin Ads - Why is there little interest?

Mine is an F. It is very light and similar to a Gibson F9 I bought back in the day. Very well built. Audey is a bit dry but great to deal with so if you have questions you can always call him.
  18. Re: Ebay Ratliff Mandolin Ads - Why is there little interest?

I bought a custom ordered Ratliff "Country Boy" #1182 about a year ago off of Reverb. It was brand new but the buyer decided to stick to guitar. I can say with out a doubt I don't think I will ever...

    Re: Help a Beginner?

Baron Collins-Hill is a large part of how I broke through with my mandolin playing. I developed a taste for Irish Fiddle tunes because of him.

Re: What's The One That Got Away?

#1 My first Gibson was a 2002 F9 in pristine condition that I bought from Tejon Street Music for about $1,900. It was an absolute dream with the exception of the nut needing some minor repair. I...

    Re: Your MAS Progression

I have owned mandolins off and on with gaps in between, but here it goes:

    Kentucky A-250 (college)

    10 year break in between

Washburn A (The one that got me...

    1. Get more comfortable with chop chords
    2. Play with others more often
    3. Learn more songs and FINISH the ones I am working on now!
  24. Re: Opinion about Gibson F-5G and F-9 new iterations

I have owned a 2002 F9 and a 2010 F5G. Both were great mandolins but I absolutely adored the F9 and its been one of my greatest regrets selling it. The F9 had a narrow nut which I did not realized...

Re: Looking for a John Duffy Mandolin solo

It may be tame but its a great piece to hear. Its just a tad out of my comfort zone which will push me to figure out how to learn it. I learned about John Duffey on this message board and found him...
