    Re: Michael A Lewis Mandolins

Mr. Geimer, I miss the Strawberry festival at Camp Mather. It was a really good thing while it lasted, and you were there for some of it. Now we have memories.

    Re: Adventures in Clip-On Mics

This is an issue with all instrument mounted mics.

The thing I found was that when using them you need a different playing technique to compensate. Varying volume by picking intensity rather than...

  8. Re: A likely contentious opinion on electric mandolins

My EDola has a very "woody" sound to it through a Blackstar amp and some eq.

It's really unique. Not like a guitar at all.

    Re: Who doesn't memorize tunes/songs?

With all respect - did you ever play in a jazz big band? and read a new tune...and have a 16 to 32 measure solo over chord changes you've just seen? (and heard?)

    It happens.

    But yes, knowing...

I agree about shielding....... If the coil is easily removable from the cover, lining the cover with copper snail tape and soldering a tag to the output ground wire will make a heck of a difference....

Re: Rio Grande Mock 4 Pickup for Gibson EM200

If it’s still a single coil, and there’s no info on their site, you’ll have the same issue with the new pickup.

Steve Ryder makes a stacked humbucker. Don’t know it’s dimensions.

Re: 4- vs 8-string electric mandos

For the normal mandolin scale neck and tuning, I myself prefer an 8-string. Single-strings that high up are just too piercing sonically for me, and I'd opt to go lower. I have a mini-strat...
