Re: If You Don't Perform In Public....

Most folks I play in front of wouldn't know a great mandolin from a lousy one. It sounds like a mandolin. So no, I cant justify having even a $10K mando :)

  9. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I say we start referring to ALL guitars and mandolins as gibsons. Make it as generic as Hoover is to Vacuum in England.
Couldn't somebody prove that design became generic?

Re: The new Session King mandolin?

It did sound quite good but everybody would just think it's a uke being played in a funny style.

Strange. It only has 3 columns of keys. Wonder if everything played in 5th double stops.

Re: Not all Collings hold their value

You would probably get the same $4500 5 years from now. or even 10 years from now. Now that is holding value.

It is cool. The patina and finish cracks make it look orig. No black on binding or rosette. Hmmmm waiting to hear more comments.

    Re: radius fretboard why?

I like flat. Doesn't make sense to me reaching the G string on downhill. Especially with pinky. I'd prefer an opposite radius there :)

Re: Using a single microphone to play live

We've played around with it. Hard. Singers must learn to stand back a little which ours are not comfortable with. Having a side mic for breaks or when needed helps a lot also.
