    Re: Need some advice.

Also remember, the mandolin is sometimes a percussion instrument. Those chop strokes can sometimes add a lot.
  4. Re: Check out this mandolin...... Thoughts, comments, concerns

I'd make 'em clean all that algae off before buying it.
  5. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I very much agree with you but some things are beyond "McGyvering."
  6. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

It was easy. They were Gibsons and Gibsons sell, or so they thought. They underestimated the intelligence of the consumer.

    Re: Arthritis pain relief

I remember several years ago when my arthritis first emerged, someone gave me a magnetic bracelet. They were all the rage at the time. Coincidentally, I had a doctor's appointment a couple of days...

Re: Gibson destroys hundreds of Firebird X's

That was no leak. You don't gimmick up the destroying of inventory by using a piece of heavy equipment unless you want the publicity.

    Re: Arthritis pain relief

Hmmmm. This is the second homeopathic/snake oil/medical arthritis thread in a couple of weeks. Is this a trend?

    Re: Arthritis pain relief

Salonpas with lidocaine works wonders for me.
  11. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Literally, you're right but I think the point is, there are no stockholders or others such as regulatory agencies that they have to answer to. Only the consumer.

    Re: Luthiers in Atlanta?

Tom Haywood does great work and if you see him on a Friday, you can probably go to a jam. (At least, I did the last time I was there.) :)
  13. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Okay, I will acquiesce to those with the greater knowledge. As a LEO, we used to destroy those counterfeit purses, sneakers, etc that we caught being sold at flea markets, Craig's List, etc. I just...
  14. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I'll venture the theory that they're not real Firebirds, but, in fact, counterfeits. If that's the case, the government, in a poorly executed show, decided to destroy them. Jim's right. A fire...

Re: arthritis in my left hand

We have all these home/homeopathic/snake oil remedies but I would recommend a conversation with the doctor first.

Re: D'Addario Micro Tuner - My Review.

Yeah, Duck Tape is a brand name for duct tape. Duct tape is for, are you ready for this?, taping ducts. However, here in the South, it's used for everything from first aid to major auto repair.

Re: arthritis in my left hand

There are lots of things to try. Some work, some don't. I, too, think it depends on the individual, like kjbllc said. Some of the off-beat things should probably be run by the doctor and remember,...

Re: arthritis in my left hand

I'm 75 and in the same boat. Mine is mostly in the left thumb with only occasional problems with the fingers so I'm usually able to work through it. Aleve and Salonpas help me.

    Re: 1921 Gibson F4 question

I was pretty sure it was redone. It sounds great and is easy to play. My main mandolin is a Breedlove but I use the Gibson every once in a while 'cause it's fun to play. It's not as loud as I...

    Re: 1921 Gibson F4 question

I have an F-4 that is either 2015 or 2016. The serial number indicates 2016 but the work order number shows 2015. It has a truss rod but I believe it may have been worked on because it has...

    Re: Mando maintenance

I think it's a 5-pack because they're almost disposable. They're great for cutting softer copper wires but I don't they'l stand up to cutting very many G or D strings.
  24. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

And it happens more than people think: Kleenex, Q-Tip, Band-Aid, Plexiglas, etc.

Those are posted for our benefit. When things slow down, they throw one of those up.
