    music stores had racks of them to go with popular recorded albums.

    Uke necks & bridges are surface glued on , so won't like higher tensions..

    I managed to find a 'period correct' old A case, for the Mandolin I bought , earlier , but it was not the original, is that not sufficient?

    Weber Gallatin for example, finishes those without edge binding Saving money in the process..
    but still the the same workmanship.. made in Bend Oregon..

    2nd hand will save even more money.....

    Pocket mandolins were also slender bodies but still GDAE.. 13" scale ,
    Where Piccolo mandolins are CGDA an octave up from viola..

    Id say @9.5" it's more piccolo. try the very lightest ...
