Looking at Big Muddy photos, I don't see position markers on the finger board. Is this the case? Are there position markers on the side of the neck?

Notes are a half step apart. Makes it easy at least for me.

Is a mandolin tax deductable for a musician?

I saw it, & like it too. If I knew more about how to work on mandolins (I haven't even changed strings on mine yet), and had a nearby luthier I'd surely buy it.

What is the upgrade?

I'm a beginner with an Eastman MD504 A style oval hole mandolin. I purchased this mandolin before I found out about wide nut mandolins. The nut width is 1 3/32".
