  1. Re: Aesthetic Question for Builders (and Buyers)

    We agree.

I prefer natural wood and a Martin D18 look on instruments to include mandolins.

White/ivoroid binding is a deterrent to purchase.
  2. Re: Article: Introducing David Grisman's Mandolin Workshop Books

Ordered... and... grateful there are artists/musicians/instructors who have respect for the "musician/student/mandolin player" and present spiral bound volumes. Much thanks.
  3. Re: Sierra Hull playing as half the audience walks away.

    Brilliant.

I have two ways to rid myself of company.

    1. Play one of my many button (diatonic) accordeons
    2. Sing

Depending on the audience, I might reverse the order.

Not as a rule, but the split blocks look ok. Nice mandolin.

Re: Should Bryan Kimsey scallop my guitar?

My "no" response has nothing to do with Bryan Kimsey, I would simply not scallop the instrument.

    Re: New Mando.........No Joy.

Did you see photos of the mandolin before purchase and were these "marks" there?
  9. Re: Should I learn to make bridges while I'm at it?

You might take the effort to learn how, then buy them.

Would you make tires or spark plugs for your car?

    Parts are parts.

Re: Am I being to Critical on New Mandolin

    My personal take,

I would like the same model without the anomalies.

    Thank you.

I do not think that is "bear claw"

Those images with the buggered finish are indicative of wood flaws.

  15. Re: Gender and age distribution of mando players

I do not remember where I saw this but, In the early 20th century, the majority of mandolin players were reported to be female.

  25. Re: What Do You Think About This Unique 1 Pc. Back?

    You asked.

    Hideous and unsound structurally.

There is so much good wood available, difficult to understand why this would be used.
