    Re: Is my MAS dead?

Kinda in the same boat. I have two great mandolins that do everything I need them too. Had the Kimble F5 for 4 years now and the Heiden A5 for over 10 years. I'd like an oval hole but don't really...

    Re: Will Kimble mandolins are....

I’ve had F5 #153 for 4 years now. It’s the perfect adi-topped foil to my Englemann Heiden. Aside from a vintage Fern or Loar, I don’t lust after ff hole mandolins much these days.

  7. Re: Gibson Master Model vs. Ellis F5 with all of his highest opti

Another distinction needs to be made here. Are we talking a new Harvey-era MM or a Derrington/Roberts MM/DMM? I've not played a Harvey MM but LOVE the Derrington/Roberts examples. They're not all...
  8. Re: Gibson Master Model vs. Ellis F5 with all of his highest opti

In my defense it is almost Halloween.....:))

And drewbarries, have you played either of these? How did you narrow your search to these two?
  9. Re: Gibson Master Model vs. Ellis F5 with all of his highest opti

Played both. Owned a MM. both exceptional mandolins. Would like to try a new Ellis with the terrified top. I like slim necks and flat boards so I lean toward MM but you really can’t go wrong with...

    Re: Waterloo Mandolin Released

Can’t believe there aren’t anymore videos of these yet. Seems the retail stores don’t care much about selling them. Looks like I’ll finally be in the same city as one before the end of the year. Will...

    Re: Shipping Costs

Are you all not insuring these mandolin? Using a rider from another company? Anything under $100 is a steal!

    Nice playing. Enjoy!
  13. Re: Was the mandolin played in traditional folk before Bill Monro

For anyone that says an F5 mando doesn’t belong in old time, point them to Caleb Klauder and the Fog Horn Stringband or Mike Compton’s playing with John Hartford.

  15. Re: Gibson Army Navy (Reissue) AN Custom (mid-90s)

Those were a limited run. Not sure of the total number but it’s fairly low. Nice score!

    Bowlback 101

You know all those threads asking for advice on buying a mandolin? Well here’s mine. I know absolutely nothing about bowlbacks. Would like to spend $500-1,000. Maybe more if I really like it. Are...

Re: Collings MT2 en Route! ;-)

You don’t need to wait 24 hours to open a mandolin in the middle of the summer. As for the mandolin, those Collings fully torrified instruments are stunning. I have a torrified top on my Collings...
