Re: Old Wave Mandoins & Bill Bussmann

    Re: Love Bluegrass but....

    Speed is overrated imho.

Show me to the slow-jam section please.

Ok,yes,I'm old but started playing mando in my early 40's. Never was really fast and no prospects of getting any quicker now.

    Re: Collings scooped fretboard extension

I cannot abide a fretboard of more than 19 frets. I'd scoop it or chop it off regardless of appearance. Just me.

Had a 24 fret "abreviated" fretboard scooped after the 19th fret for unobstructed...

Re: Different picks for different instruments

I tend to find that the shape of the pick has a noticeable effect on tone as well as thickness, material, grip angle.

If you use a teardrop shaped pick do you use the pointy or more rounded edge? ...

    Re: It's a habit, I can't help myself

There must be some kind of inflationary movement in the mandolin world in last couple years. Not too many "deals" to be had.
Although the variety and quality seems plentiful.

Re: What's The One That Got Away?

For me the one that got away I already owned. But life being unpredictable,I found I could not afford to keep the best mandolin I ever played. It was Nugget #223 F-style. I got to pick out the amber...
  11. Re: Sunday picking sessions at my house are keeping me alive...

Learning to play the mandolin has certainly helped me keep what little sanity I have left. It has been a positive influence in every way.

So,even as a solitary endeavor it is a very good thing....

  13. Re: A tuner shootout: TC Electronic Unitune vs. Peterson StroboCl

Aaron,I agree with your assessments. I can use the Peterson ok but prefer the Unitune.PS,My first Unitune would eat a battery in a few uses. Sweetwater sent me a new one to replace it. Works great.

Not sure but looks like Webb is holding his pick backwards ala Reischman? Unique grip. Wears mandolin high. Ergo the headstock strap.

Said his "favorite" mandolin was a 27 Fern. He sold it. Dang.
