Re: The 100 100 Challenge Weekly Video

I am sad to see this end, I am sure that it is sort of a relief for you though. How do you feel about everything? Did you learn anything along the way? Has your playing become noticeably better? Can...

    Re: The Loar LM-600E

I can't speak to the 600 but I have a LM-400 that I love. I mean I really love that thing. I had to spend a couple of grand to even come close to its sound in a F style. I bought a KM-1050 and to be...

    Re: Buying a new mando.

So I put the Kentucky KM-1050 on my bench. The truss rod was out of adjustment and the saddle slots needing some love. However, after making some adjustments and then putting some D'Addario EXP74s...

This video shows them side by side. I have to say that I think the Eastman is the way to go here. I never thought I would say that because I am a...
  6. Re: New mandolin question. (eastman, the loar, richwood)

Well, I am a Kentucky guy myself. I went and played 4 different Eastman's this past weekend. A 305, 505, 315, and a 515. I was not impressed even a little. Although I have never played a Kentucky...

    Re: Buying a new mando.

Okay so I went on a quest. I drove 3 hours round trip to my local music shop that will remain nameless. They are in Austin. I tried several different Eastman's. I tried the MD-305, MD-505, two...

    Re: My fathers' Mandolin

Wow! What a great back story! This is super cool, you are very lucky to have something like that handed down in your family. I hope you keep it and pass it down to your kids as well. Especially, now...

This was hands down the best thing I have watched In a a long time!!!!! I have wanted to be a luthier for longer than I can remember. This man takes it to another level. I love that he is self...

This is really cool! I am getting my degree as a Software Engineer but am very new to coding. I love that this will combine coding with my love for music. I will get to practice both coding and...
  12. Re: Why not a domestic, hand built instrument instead?

Okay last post on this thread I promise. I just wanted to say that I stand corrected. I retract any previous statement and am now actively looking for a Northfield to try out. I thought they were the...

    Re: Artistworks vs Peghead Nation

Thank you all for the input! I would not have considered all of these things. I can imagine that it is best to just record the level I am at so I can get the best feedback. I have not recorded myself...
  14. Re: Why not a domestic, hand built instrument instead?

I seem to have struck a nerve here. That was not my intention. I am only stating what my opinion is and nothing more. Mandolins made overseas historically are cheaper than those made in the states,...
  15. Re: Why not a domestic, hand built instrument instead?

When I say "cheap labor" I don't mean that they are in a sweatshop. I just mean that the reason they are being made over there is because it cost less than it would to have them built here. I am sure...

    Re: Artistworks vs Peghead Nation

I do plan on using the video submission feature, But I am going to practice a lot before I do. I feel weird about sending a video of myself playing the mandolin to someone as amazing as Mr. Marshall.
  17. Re: Why not a domestic, hand built instrument instead?

I find myself in this exact situation. I have 2500 to spend but I cannot find what I want at that price from a U.S. luthier. I mean heck, even northfields range all the way up to 7 grand. Crazy to...

    Re: Artistworks vs Peghead Nation

Well, I went with the 50 percent off Artist works. Mike Marshall is my Mando Idol, I can't believe that I will be able to take lessons from him. Even if it is in a round about way. I am very much...

    Re: Buying a new mando.

I’m with ya, I watch every video Mr. Ratliff puts out every week on YouTube. I wish I could move there and work for him. I would love to own one of his F style mandolins, but they are out of reach...

I just want to put this out there. I am looking into this myself. David Benedict has this thing he does with different levels, and it seems affordable. I think I am going to go this route.

    Buying a new mando.

    Re: Loar lm-520 New mandolin

So I ended up taking the 520 back. I didn’t like it. I ended up finding a lm-400 for the same price that I got. It is noticeably better. Maybe just the set up.
