James tailpiece on a Collings MT2
Sorry if this has been discussed already but I’m interested in switching out my Collings tailpiece for a James possibly. I ordered a Nugget tailpiece from Northfield and realized it was going to require fairly significant redrilling and filling and decided to abandon. Does anyone have experience with installing a James tailpiece on a Collings? My Collings is a new MT2.

I am sure Collings would know if you contacted them. Also you might contact Bill at Axiom, I am sure he would know as well.

I have a James Tailpiece on my MT2. It was ordered with it but look at how cool their engraving is on this!

I am watching this thread because it is of interest to me, too, though I have an MT. Thanks for the question! :mandosmiley:

JT, I haven't retrofitted a James, but in my experience Axiom has a high level of customer service. I purchased from them an unplated tailpiece which i sent to Weldon Lister for engraving. I would be willing to bet that with a phone call to Axiom, you could get a tailpiece with the same hole placement as your Collings TP. Let us know how it works out.

Bill James is a joy to work with.
If it's any help, the holes on my new James tailpiece exactly matched those on my F-9. I was also able to use the original F-9 tailpiece screws (which are a slightly different length, thickness and thread than those which come with the James tailpiece). Happily, the tailpiece angle was also right, and I was even able to change the tailpiece without changing strings. It was a plug-and-play installation.

That looks great, Don! Thanks for the info.
