Slightly Lose Strap Pin -- A Bit of Glue Okay?
My A style has a strap pin that will pop out now and again. Do you recommend a spot or two of Elmer's to secure it? Can't just twist it in place as I would on my guitars. Thanks for the advice!

No
do not glue it. I had same problem on a guitar. Took some plain printer paper and made a piece that would just wrap around once (no overlap) and tapped it in. If you need more, do 2 layers. has held for 5 years now.

I just saw this one. Certainly this would also work well. Thanks Vince!

You could use some clear nail varnish as a weak glue. A little smear will hold the pin securely, but if you give the end pin a sharp twist,it'll break the bond & the pin will come out. That's what's holding the end pin in on one of my mandolins - it's been like that for
10 years !,
Ivan;)

Ivan, Thank you very much for the suggestion and the "anecdotal evidence". I like that idea! :mandosmiley: Dan

Hmm? Starting to appreciate Bruce Weber and my modest Gallatin mandolin a little bit more.
Re: Slightly Lose Strap Pin -- A Bit of Glue Okay?
Nothing modest about those Gallatins. Well built, play beautifully and sound great. As far as strap pins, I have had them slip out of Martin and Guild guitars, so it doesn't correlate with the quality of the instrument. The strap pin system the Weber mandolins have does seem to be very well designed. :)

paper draughtsman's tape wrap will make it a skosh bigger.. and the adhesive is not going to leave residue..

Regardless of what you do with the pin, putting a bootlace around the tailpiece and through a hole in the strap is a great insurance policy that I use on EVERY mandolin I own.

Wrap a piece of plumbers PTFE thread seal tape around the end pin. Push into place.

I did this procedure and it worked perfectly. I am well pleased. Thanks again, Ivan, and to all of our friends who made suggestions! Dan

Low humidity can cause the problem this time of year. First step for me would be to ensure adequate humidity levels. The end-pin tends to shrink and get loose during the heating season. I know, problem already solved but this is for future readers.

A small amount of Plumber's Tape. Okay, cue the Plumber's Crack jokes.

Love mine!
Re: Slightly Lose Strap Pin -- A Bit of Glue Okay?
If opting for glue, let it cure , outside of the hole.. you are building up the outside of the taper,
which is I presume, too small for the hole..
you can buy oversize end buttons,, even from violin shops .. they can be shaped to fit, by those folks ..
its a tool not unlike a pencil sharpener
