Gilchrist's plate carving jig
Does anyone know more about Gilchrist's plate carving contraption, as seen in this video: http://www.abc.net.au/landline/conte...0/s3229947.htm
It looks like a simple cradle for the plates, which rotates on some kind of pipe/flange thing that clamps to the front edge of the bench. Sure looks handy!
Thanks in advance,
Tony

I'm afraid I don't, but I really like the look of Stan Miller's solution:

Apologies if you've already seen it!
Re: Gilchrist's plate carving jig
I went to see Steve's jig, and see pictures or a house being built. probably my bad
Re: Gilchrist's plate carving jig
The jig is seen part way through the imbedded video. It's a cool spinning, lazy-susan affair that seems like a real good idea.
Re: Gilchrist's plate carving jig
Tony - You pretty much described it. From what he described to us at the Mandolin Symposium a couple of years ago and the pictures, its as simple as it looks. In many ways, its like a bench version of the Stewmac Shop Stand.
Re: Gilchrist's plate carving jig
It looks just like the form that Benedetto uses (but for mandolins). I make one similar (simpler) to it that I mounted to my bench. I'll try to post pictures later.
