Tried selling it a few times; no one wants these.
I think mine is 20" that what it was advertised as. I saw alot at $900 but i held out and found mine at $600 with hard case. It goes great with my flat top octave and my solidbody ones, which are all either 19" or 20" scale length being a f style arch top it fits right in

Mandolin Mo Strings has a new octave. It is going to be less than $1500.00 but they have not settled on a price. Beautiful intrumtent though.
Still, the Eastman is a steal.

That said, there are others who really like the Ashbury. Liked it at first, but now it mostly sits in the case.
A follow up to my earlier post. Took both my OMs to a jam/practice last Monday. Switched between the two a lot. Finally I asked the person sitting next to me if he heard a difference. Was told, sort of. The Eastman cut through better, but didn't have the bass of the Ashbury.
That said, am now seriously thinking of upgrading to either a Pono, Lafferty, or more likely, the Northfield flat-top octave.

Those Northfields have an interesting sound to them:
Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?
I think Siveen Mandolin might make a OM in their Celtic Spirit line.
Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?
Elloree Mandolins Rick Felkel is the sole proprietor. Make a custom octave mandolin for $600.
Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?
There's a Lafferty octave for 1250 and a Golden Wood for 1275 on reverb right now. Both accepting offers. The Lafferty is a good deal. The Golden wood is intriguing. It might be a great deal. I've never heard one played before.

They're the Hobgoblin house brand and I think available in the US?
Where do you advertise your instruments, then? I'm very interested in knowing european websites for second hand mandolin family instruments. Thanks!

Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?
I just found this Greek luthier on Etsy who makes all sorts of ethnic Greek instruments incuding, of course, bouzoukis. He also makes what he calls a 3/4 bouzouki with a shorter scale and this flatback one with 60cm/23.6" scale. I wonder if he could make a slightly shorter scale one. Prices seem pretty reasonable including free shipping.

Is there a maker that markets them for $1200 or under?
Where are you located? I have been trying to get one of mine into someones hands for some time. At least as long as this thread has been going.

If I hadn't just dumped money into redoing my shop I'd probably go for one of those. You actually got the shape right as far as I'm concerned and I'm assuming the sound and playablity are there. That looks great. You stayed more with the "Army-Navy" shape as opposed to the tear drop that others have out there. Also, I love the oval sound hole. Nice work, love the detail.
For anyone interested here's the link:

Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?
Thank you Mr. Edgerton. I read some about your shop projects. It sounds like its going to be really neat.
I have cousins in Kansas whom I hope to get an instrument to. If the Moderators are interested, I would be happy to loan one for the Cafe to check out.
Best regards, Maurice
Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?
I have no experience with the OM. I bought the Eastman MDO-305. I put the EJ 72 strings on it.
Pretty much all I've been playing since COVID. Just a lot of fun!
Then again, I've never played another.

Someone buy. I don't need an octave mandolin right now. But...seriously, someone buy it before I have to.
