D'Andrea reintroducing Ultra Plec - Any fans?
I see on D'Andrea's web site they are reintroducing Ultra Plec, which I have seen described as having a darker tone and a sticker grip than Pro Plec.
Also some sort of new material they're calling Radex, which is my guess to compete with the high end indestructible pics, though these are not beveled...

I really have a pick acquisition disorder.

Hmm. might have to try some of each. Don't think I ever tried Ulta when they were available.

Re Radex:
From Wiki: " Polyphenylsulfone is a heat and chemical-resistant suited for automotive, aerospace, and plumbing applications....These are moldable plastics......."
I also am (almost) addicted to trying new picks. Unfortunately, I continue to be disappointed when nothing seems to be better sounding or feeling than either Blue Chips or casein based picks like Red Bear or some 'Charmed Life' picks or similar.:(
So I pretty much stick to those two types.:)

I liked the Pr Plecs a lot. I still use them.

Sorry to be contrary but I can't say I like either the overall shapes or the point shapes. Preferring the 346 and 385 in Pro Plec
Re: D'Andrea reintroducing Ultra Plec - Any fans?
Might have to check the Radex 346 out. I suffer P.A.S. too. Blue Chip, Primetime & Pro Plecs are my go to picks.
Re: D'Andrea reintroducing Ultra Plec - Any fans?
Any idea on the price point of these new picks?
Re: D'Andrea reintroducing Ultra Plec - Any fans?
Musicians Friend has them on pre-order, to ship in the next couple weeks. Radex are 6 for a bit less than $6, Ultra Plec is 6 for a bit more than $7. In the same neighborhood as Pro Plecs, which was the first pick I liked when I started on mandolin, it tamed the shrillness of my technique and budget instrument. Now I mostly use M150 Wegens and Primetones, or Ultec when I need more articulation and can't find my triangular Wegen!
Playing mandolin got me trying heavier picks on guitar, and now that I'm playing more old-time and bluegrass flatpicking I keep getting thicker and thicker. Can't play Pinball Wizard without a little more flex though, so I'm not quite ready to give up my .88's!
