Cleaning oil varnish finish with a French polished shellac
Recently purchased a used Austin Clark 2 point that is amazing.
It is, however, a bit 'grungy'.
I'd like to clean it.
Did the normal 'searches' and what I'm seeing is using a slightly damp soft cotton cloth.
If that doesn't do the trick, what would the next step be?
Any ideas?

Sent him an email yesterday and waiting for a response.
Was hoping someone here might have some advice.

Maybe Ted Eschliman will chime in. He reviewed a cherry red one on his site quite a while ago. I don't recall if he actually owned it or not.

I have “sweat rash” marks on my Clark GBOM. In discussion with Austin, we settled on Novus (poss No.2) but I’ve yet to attack the rash with any gusto in case I take too much of the finish off.

No rash, just the vague 'gunk' I'd like to get off.
I want to make sure I don't damage the finish in any way, so I'm hesitant to try anything.
Bill McCall - the one I have is the twin that Ted reviewed. If memory serves me (ALWAYS a crap shoot), he had one made with block inlays and some other customizations.
Hopefully Ted will chime in.
