I bet , probably the best place to reuse those.. better than destroying those..

It will be interesting to see if all 10 guitars can be accounted for in a couple of years.

Re: 10 high end guitars seized by Moose & Goose, find good homes,
If I were the school district administration, I'd sell them and net the substantial money they will bring. Then I would buy good, student grade guitars for schools to use. They would get a lot more student guitars that would be available for many more students. The thought of some 15 year old kid who knows nothing about a guitar wailing away on such fine instruments is scary, and would cause certain damage and quickly diminish their value.

They can't sell them, they are property of the Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Let the kids learn how to take care of great instruments. Maybe it will encourage some phenoms to the music program.

'Gonna be a whole lot more kids signing up for band this semester!

Re: 10 high end guitars seized by Moose & Goose, find good homes,
When I went to the story, there was a guitar ad with a picture of a MapleGlo Rickenbacker 360, right in the middle of the article - I though that was possibly the best guitar in the bunch . . . but, I digress . . . .

Agreed. Sometimes kids (people really) give too little because we expect too little. I grew up on a farm and learned to take care of my tools, regardless of purpose or cost. These kids can do the same.

Re: 10 high end guitars seized by Moose & Goose, find good homes,
If my reading of the new CITES rules is accurate, and if these new guitars are using non-Brazilian rosewood, the old Appendix II rosewood laws that allowed confiscation of these guitars by the FWS will not apply on or after November 26 this year. As of this year's CITES conference ruling, finished instruments, instrument accessories and instrument parts are basically exempt.

Re: 10 high end guitars seized by Moose & Goose, find good homes,
The primary issue in this case is BRW, so the recent CITES change would have no effect.

Re: 10 high end guitars seized by Moose & Goose, find good homes,
If Im not mistakin 1992 was the final year for Brazilian Rosewood. And hopefully the paperwork is in order to prove the year of manufacture . Anything after that years is a issue .
I can see why PRS put for U.S only on the headstock.

Here is a quote from the article: The guitars feature Brazilian rosewood — protected by an international treaty — and can’t be exported without permits, Andrews said.
So yes, as Buck stated, the issue is BRW.
The underlying issue though is the attempt to deceive. Shipping the guitars without permits (even if they were built from Knotty Pine) and declaring them as 'Clothing'. Those Fish and Game guys are not known for their sense of humor in those situations.

Re: 10 high end guitars seized by Moose & Goose, find good homes,
BRW, yes, I noticed that after posting... Thank you for making it clear.
And the "clothing" declaration seems like an intentional invitation for trouble. I have to wonder if whoever shipped this was intentionally setting up for a loss.

I think the students will be encouraged by those great guitars!

And now I actually get why TAMCO won’t ship to the US...high cost vs this...neither are good options...
Congrats to the children who get to play those now!

And I have a strong suspicion of which East Coast dealer was involved... here in Maryland, if my suspicion is correct.
