A couple of new electrics
I thought you all might be interested in these two.
First off an 8 string hollow body hot off the bench, with a spruce and golden-madrone top:

Here's the video demo that goes with it:

This 5 string was finished off earlier in the year, but you can see the family similarity ;) This one's a little more electric guitar and a little less mandolin, with burr walnut appointments:

Re: A couple of new electrics
Very nice, John. I like that burl top. Nice design too. Would you say the main difference (other than the number of strings) that impacts the tone is the different tailpieces?

They're built slightly differently too: the 8 string is fully hollow but with a sound post (more like a block of wood really) under the bridge to kill the body resonance (and hence feedback), while the 5 string is mostly solid down the whole centre of the instrument. As a result the 5 string is more "electric guitar" and the 8 rather more "mandolin".
Re: A couple of new electrics
That eight-string really does it for me. Beautiful job on each of them and also on the clips demonstrating them. If I was in the market for an electric, that eight-string would be the one for me. Thanks for posting this.
Re: A couple of new electrics
The 8-string hollow body has a gorgeous tone! Your use of the reverb just made it prettier.
And both instruments are beautiful-looking.
Great work!
