Just wanted to say thanks...
Just wanted to say thanks...
To whomever keeps buying the mandolins I have been thinking of buying. MAS has hit me hard the last few weeks, almost pulled the trigger on three over the past couple weeks and the day I decide to do it they're gone.
You guys are helping me to keep my wallet in my pocket. Thanks! No, really thanks...it's Christmas time, now is not the time for MAS to hit.
Re: Just wanted to say thanks...
All well and good for you, but that Birdseye Collings is still at Gryphon.

But you're not interested in the birdseye collings you only want that Ellis
Re: Just wanted to say thanks...
Nobody can afford that Ellis. We are Icarus, and it is the sun. You want that MFO gloss top at Down Home Guitars.
Re: Just wanted to say thanks...
I want that Ellis too, man. But, I also want my Collings. I also want a Red Diamond, and a Passernig. 1/4 of the way there!

Haha. Yes, indeed the same thing is happening to me. I lusted out loud for the Black Night Gibson at the Mandolin Store. Gone. Then it was between the new Goldrush they had and some used ones here. Gone. I'll think about a used Collings for a bit. Gone. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

But that Collings would be a lovely wall hanger, and someone bought the Ellis. But the stars look like they are going to line up and I'll have a lovely Custom Martin D 35 coming from Bryan Kimsey, who says it's the best one he's ever played, and it's stock. Not at a cost, for I'm parting with another Martin I've had for 25 years. But it's going to a good friend.

You might find that one Passernig is not enough. Ask me how I know . . . :whistling:
There is a pretty one in the classifieds right now:

Re: Just wanted to say thanks...
There's also a honey amber Collings F that would look so nice with my Collings honey amber A-style. Thank heaven I am too broke to buy it.
Re: Just wanted to say thanks...
I'm about 99% sure I decided to buy a new mandolin today.

The birdseye F at Gryphon is honey amber. It is stunning to the point of distraction.

My post about the difference between Engleman and red spruce this morning was more than theoretical. I wound up ordering the sunburst MT2-0 that's been listed on the Music Emporium's website. I paid a little extra for overnight delivery, so it should arrive tomorrow. :-)
Re: Just wanted to say thanks...
I decided on some minor work on the D 35, so I wont have it until next week. I tried to find a mandolin that would part me from my money. Plenty of mandolins out there are in the mo dough than I've got category. Haven't bought a guitar in a long while though.

Joe, give it some time, play it in, maybe while you are waiting for the top to break in try some Monel strings or Curt Mangan string (lower tension). Enjoy it!
