One of the best songwriters ever. Old Chunk of Coal, Georgia on a Fast Train, a whole Waylon album: "Honky Tonk Heroes", I'm Gonna Live Forever, and so many more. A huge loss. Really sick of 2020.

Well, damn...
Oh, man. One of the greats. He lived so much heartache, too.
One of my enduring memories is Billie Joe Shaver turning to me in a parking lot in Austin during SXSW and asking if I knew who was on stage. "Her name's Tift Merritt," I told him. "She's got it. That little girl has got it," he said.
He had it, too.
Last time I saw BJS was a few years ago. He must have been 77 or 78 then. He looked like he was 50 or maybe a 108. Hard to tell exactly.
His songs made time stand still, too.
Mick
He married and divorced the same woman 3 times. There's a song in there somewhere.

RIP Billy Joe
Except for the last track," We Had It All" the ground-breaking "Honky Tonk Heroes" country music album- recorded at the Glaser Brothers Studio- "Hillbilly Central" was entirely songs written by Billy Joe Shaver- with one co-written with Waylon and one other collaborative song. I have three copies- two vinyl and a CD. Most country music now is beyond formulaic and it is isn't country either. RIP Billy Joe Shaver.
Low down freedom, you've done cost me
Everything I'll ever lose
Your as empty as my pockets
From the top of where you start down to the bottom of my shoes
