I am currently planning trip to NYC to see this. Is there anyway I can be sure, a month or two in advance, that Andy will be playing? I have a friend in law school there. I'm staying with him and am looking forward to seeing him, but truth be known, the main reason I'm going is to see Statman's trio. It would be disappointing to go all that way, on my budget, and miss him. Thanks for any info.
Daniel
Scott, you done GOOD! That is, indeed, the prerequisite meal for going to see Statman. However, tonight my brother and I will be having awfully good brie-burgers at L'Express before the show... and yes, in your honor we'll wash 'em down with Cinq Cents! Regarding seeing Andy in the future, just keep checking his website and send an email to me if you wanna be x-tra sure!
good brie-burgers... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/...ns/biggrin.gif
On a related note, I recently acquired (along with East Flatbush Blues) Awakening From Above, his clarinet focused companion CD (of sorts). It' fantastic. If you're not familiar with this side of Andy, you're in for a treat, and if you do, then you'll not be dissapointed.
Hey, if you all are lucky I will post a link to some video footage I took recently in NY of Andy playing at one of his regular synagogue basement gigs. He has a new mando – the funky looking blonde Italian one that Grisman had been spotted with – and he was obviously taking this thing for a test drive and really getting into it. Incredible
You folks are teasing me. My wife ordered E-F Blues for me before Christmas, and there was a mix up with the order. It's supposed to finally arrive next week. I feel like I just ordered a new mandolin, I'm on the waiting list and waiting and waiting for it! Actually, I live close enough to catch his live Gig myself, but I'm always so busy, and once I drag my wife to the city, she's got other ideas.
I'm listening to this album right now on MySpace.
Not much I can say...This is so good I'm speechless...Talk about taking things to a whole other level!
Such virtuosity, such soulfulness...
Okay, there's Andy Statman, and then there's everyone else...
(Oh, and I love his little vocalizations during the solos!)

that about sums it up... at 60 years old Andy is playing better than ever... the perfect storm of unlimited imagination, unlimited technique and the courage to let it all hang out...
