Beatles--"Something" on solo 10-string
Another solo arrangement of one of my favorites. Left channel is acoustic, Shure Beta 58 (dynamic), right channel is Ryder magnetic soundhole pickup direct, no preamp or tone controls. Slight midrange cut on both channels afterward, reverb added. Again using maple-body Buchanan.

Really enjoyed that Tom, many thanks.
I'd love to see the sheet music for your arrangement if you ever get chance

Re: Beatles--"Something" on solo 10-string
Thanks, Ed, and everyone. I so enjoy the way Beatles riffs and melodies lie close to hand on the 10-string.
Also, I am so pleased with the versatility of the flat-top with magnetic pickup---it can be folk, rock, or jazz, with ease, and no impedance or EQ issues from the pickup, which can plug into pretty much anything these days. Minor point--I did not install an endpin jack, just mounted a mini-plug on the pickup itself. I was then able to swap it over to another instrument when I felt a need to make my maple Buchanan my main axe. A belt-clip volume/tone control completes the performing rig, mini-plug cable to that box, and standard 1/4" output to amp or other. In this case, though, I went direct into the MBox interface, partly to demonstrate the setup, but it sounded so nice I will use that as default for recording now.
Steve Ryder's stacked-single-coil pickup has great high end and excellent hum cancellation. It is tall, so its applications are limited to where there is clearance. The separate poles allow dramatic string-balancing adjustment, so I can use bronze-wound strings and tame the strong A as well as boost the weak E. This is my own mounting, but the dimensions suit the axe perfectly---all I did was attach a couple of faucet washers under the ends as clamping. A tiny drop of glue between washer and the underside of the top holds it in place. To prevent microphonic clicking from the pick hitting it I covered it with a thin layer of self-adhesive foam.

That's a really really nice interpretation of this Beatles classic. Very well done Tom. Hope you don't mind if I "borrow" it. I sure do miss George Harrison....:crying:

Wow, Tom that was stunning! Rats: Drat: I just don't sound like that yet. Did I read ten string in the thread?

This song is one of the anthems of my senior year in high school, 1969-70, and no less a music legend than Frank Sinatra has called it one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Or maybe he said THE most beautiful song ever written. I don’t know. Memory fades. Good-bye youth, good-bye George Harrison, goodbye Frank Sinatra.
Utterly gorgeous performance on your 10-string. My sincerest thanks for sharing it.

Sinatra called “Something” "the greatest love song of the past 50 years." He was also known to mistakenly introduce it in live performances as his favorite Lennon & McCartney song, even though it was written by George Harrison.

Natural chorus effect, I like it. :-) Nice arrangement. You got the modulation in the second half really perfect, too.

Thanks. 4 years since I recorded that, and I cringe that I played a Bb chord instead of Eb in the beginning cadence, but I was practicing from flawed memory.
I really like what I achieved on this version of Sun King, which has only the magnetic pickup and a trace of chorus added in the recording.
