Electric mandolin indians
Re: Eletric mandolin indians
Only a Givson is good enough.
I think it's one of their electric models. It might not be available in that color this year.
Re: Electric mandolin indians
Why do we call these things mandolins?
They have the wrong number of strings and the wrong tuning. We might as well call an electric ukulele and electric mandolin.
Re: Electric mandolin indians
I can't speak to the video because it's blocked where I work but the one in the picture above has 8 strings. Tuning I have no idea.

PJ obviously rules out the 8-string, and even that rightfully forgotten user of alternate tunings... what's his name? Oh, yeah... Bill Monroe! *laugh*

And here are their acoustic mandolins. I like the looks of the MANDOLIN - ROSE WOOD (F-Hole):

Re: Electric mandolin indians
I can't see the video, only the image from here and after looking at Jim's pictures I'm pretty sure those puppies came out of the same factory.
I've been wrong before.
Re: Electric mandolin indians
Yep, it has 8 strings and it's Grason.
Maybe the kid is more from the Snehashish Mozumder school than the U Srinivas school, I dunno ...
And I guess the Givson folks heard that Gibson was going bankrupt, so they decided they'd rather be mistaken for a Duke basketball player.

Re: Electric mandolin indians
Here's the logo. Nice fire engine red. I am sure that color is the most collectible of all the Grason line. Pre-CBS. :)

Definitely the same company as Givson. Same model name, too.

Re: Electric mandolin indians
Perhaps they should have named this line the Eviphone.

Don’t you love the strangely elongated headstock?
Since we’re talking Mandolins here it could be:
A Givchrist?
A Colvings?
A Ratviff?
A Sliverangel?
An Elvis?

I'll take one Ratviff and one Elvis, next-day shipping please. Thanks. ;) :)) :)
Re: Eletric mandolin indians
Designed by Gumby(he did that Gibson with the melted scroll)
Smurfs like them too
Re: Electric mandolin indians
Fine playing and it seems to blend with trad Indian musical instruments nicely.
Good to see the mandolin pushing boundaries and cultures.
Thanks for sharing

In spite of all the funnin’ and “Givson” jokes I actually agree with you there!

I agree. :mandosmiley: :)
Re: Electric mandolin indians
He can play and it's captivating music. Looks like a mandolin to me. I would like to know the tuning.
And, I dare any one of you to sit like that for 7 minutes and then try to get up quickly.

It *is* a mandolin, in GDAD tuning low to high.
