I've had my eye on that one. I kinda fantasized about it but there are just too many potential problems beyond what the seller shows in the photos -- so I decided to pass. I'd love to pull thing out with the tape and the holes and scrapes and scratches play a really rousing version of whatever (at this stage of my development "rousing version" of anything is pretty much a fantasy, too).
I put a watch on it, but just out of curiosity to see what it finally sells for.
It won't stay anywhere near that price.
Wonder what the sort-of-neatly drilled holes on either side of the soundhole are. Maybe somebody tried mounting a pickup at some point?
That was to hold the cereal spoon pickup. Ref the cereal number.
I didn't even catch that the first time I read it. That's GRRRRREEEEAAAAAAT!
That's actually the kind of snakehead I have been looking for. I just don't want to pay a fortune for it. That would be a fun restore project as it isn't ever going to be original.
Serial (cereal) number is around 1907.
The cereal number must be wrong. There were no 1907 snakes.
We have our first bidder....god speed to you sir whoever you are...
my hats off to whoever rescues this noble beast.....
I guess im a little xtra sympathetic at the moment..Im in the middle of a rescue case myself....Ive got a Shutt/Harmony mandolin thats undergoing surgery at Retrofret this very moment...
I'll be upside down on the deal but its too good of a mandolin to leave in disrepair..
whadaya gonna do ?
look at that funky snake...just aint right to be left like that..
Okay, I could see myself owning that one. Reminds me of a J-45 a friend owns. Looks like it had been dragged behind a truck. But sounds and plays great.
While it probably needs more work that I'd want to put into it, should be a fun project for someone.
It ended up at $635 plus $40 shipping. Not so bad unless it is a basket case inside.
Did anybody here snag it? Would love to get the rest of the story.
Other than the tape and blisters, my A3 was similar when I got it. 32 years later, I still love it!

It seems like it has a lot of potential.
