I'm trying to find out what Pick I bought 8 years ago

I bought this pick and it ended up being too thick although the bevels are nice.

I might have bought it from Elderly music where I was stocking up on picks and strings.

I would guess a Red Bear brand pick. It is possible that it is natural Tortoise but not likely. R/

Yes. But they were originally called "Tor-Tis". Or, rather, "New Tor-Tis".
This differentiated them from the old Tor-Tis, which was nothing more than cut up Greven pickguards. I think the company started the RedBear name to make a clean delineation between those and the new milk-protein based organic picks.

I think Barry hit the nail on the head, it is a Red Bear pick and was bought from Elderly or First Quality Music Supply, both which I have been dealing with over the years. I send the pick image to Red Bear and they also confirmed that it is one of their first picks made (perhaps 15 years ago). I have only been playing mandolin for 17 years so this makes sense. I looked a little deeper into my music box and found the original packaging which also confirms the New Tortis name and Red Bear web site address. I took another picture of all these and will be trying to sell this if anybody is interested. Nice piece of history.

I just needed to update this thread with some new info, it looks like I bought two red bear picks years ago and had another little plastic bag with the label, "Gypsy Jazzer" which would be the pick originally shown. I also found the "Tri-Tip Medium" which I'll try to use once again for mandolin playing. Anyone looking for a Gypsy Jazzer pick, let me know.
