F style strap recommendation...
I have always had A-style mandolins, but recently have been getting into F’s
I prefer a thin strap that I can leave on the instrument when I put it into its case, anybody have any F-style strap recommendations for that?
In the meantime I have been making do with my A-style strap but it’s just not the same

Noticed your avatar. You could start with a dog lead if you can find one long enough!
Re: F style strap recommendation...
Please define “thin”. I really like my Longhollow Softie and Lakota Leathers flat braided straps. Both could be “thin” in different ways :)
Re: F style strap recommendation...
Lakota leathers makes very good straps. I have two on each mandolin I play. NFI.

Re: F style strap recommendation...
I guess thin and narrow? Those flat braids look like a lot of surface area, does it get hot under them in the summer?
Well I love the Lakota round strap look, can you leave it on your mando when you put it in the case?
Thanks!
Re: F style strap recommendation...
I am a big fan of the Long Hollow Big Softy straps.
They are super comfortable.
They are also very supple, so they go in the case with no effort.
I never take them off.
Re: F style strap recommendation...
I have a Sully's on my F5S, and a Little Satchel on the Kimble. The latter one is a lighter braided strap of kangaroo. The Sully's strap is a little heavier, bridle leather.
Both are awesome, and both stay on the instruments in their cases.

The Neotech strap has a Loop end and 2 leather tabs for buttons .. fitted with small plastic Fastex type connectors..

+1 for the Longhollow Softy.
Re: F style strap recommendation...
Longhollow Softy all the way. It is wide where it rests on your shoulder but it is very thin and supple, so it goes in the case very easy. I also never take mine off.

Ivan Kelsall (R.I.P.) turned me on to this strap. He actually bought one for me. I love it.

Re: F style strap recommendation...
Alan, that’s kind of along the lines of what I was envisioning, but now after seeing the small round braids I may have to check one of those... maybe I’ll get both! Lol
Thanks for the props to Ivan, without his many posts it feels like some fixtures around the cafe are missing!
Strap Acquisition Syndrome goes well with the case of MAS I have.
I appreciate all the responses
Re: F style strap recommendation...
I would HIGHLY recommend Harrison Straps in Woodlawn, Va. Ronny Harrison is an expert at making straps that are very cool in appearance and super functional!
Re: F style strap recommendation...
I use a rawhide boot lace with a hangman noose on each end.
Re: F style strap recommendation...
+1 for Sullys. All my machines have them.
Re: F style strap recommendation...
I’ve been trying to get along with a lace or braid, but they’re both extremely uncomfortable. Considering my mandolin would’ve originally cost about $5k, and most of the time I’m using a $35 pick, I don’t see an issue with spending a few bucks on a comfortable strap.
Re: F style strap recommendation...
I'm happy with my Bailey Strap.
