There can be many factors that go into a purchase decision for a mandolin. Like: depth of pocket$, looks, peer approval, style of play, feel, and preferred sound. I don’t think I would have the fortitude to buy one without playing it, but many people do. And it is not as risky when you are buying from a dealer. I’d get an approval time but that’s me. Or fly down there and check it out. It would be a great trip and one of the great stories you get to tell. ( Btw, I like my stock 02 Fern. )
