Best refret around Nashville???
Just bought a 2004 Gibson A-9 off eBay. Needs new strings bad...easy fix. Frets 1-8 have indentions in them. I don't wanna spend the money on a refret job, but if I decide to, does anyone know a good luthier around Nashville for a refret....and approximate cost? I might post a pic later to see if you all think it needs to be refretted or dressed. Thanks!
Re: Best refret around Nashville???
I'd say Joe Glaser in Berry Hill. but he's usually pretty backed up. Check with Gruhn Guitars - if they can't do it, they'll send you in the right direction..
Re: Best refret around Nashville???
If the dents aren't too bad, you might be able to recrown the frets rather than replacing them.
I am experienced in fret work, and am within driving distance. You are welcome to pm me.
Re: Best refret around Nashville???
I have worked through Steve at Cumberland Acoustics to get an EVO refret and custom pickguard in the past.
They did a stellar job. The action was perfect and immaculate work. They are a little bit outside Nashville, Hendersonville.
The turnaround was really fast.

Thanks for the input! I just put new strings on, and boy does it sound better! Open and airy... bassy G string and punchy A....just what I was looking for....anyhow, I can't say I notice the fretwear when playing....here's a pic of the frets after I took the strings off....would you refret????
Re: Best refret around Nashville???
Yes, those are pretty chewed up, and it will affect the playability and the intonation. If the upper frets are in good shape and are well seated, just the worn ones can be replaced.
