Any tips please for picking over the fretboard? I'm thinking of what you do to get those harp style sounds from a mandolin - or is there another way to do it?
I don't know about harp sounds but I find that practicing over the fret board has helped me get rid of the sewing machine action in my right hand, well maybe not get rid of but improve!
I like the warm sound of picking over the fret board. Just like anything else it just takes practice not to dig in too deep and strike the neck, causing that awful clicking, which I occasionally do.
You could always have a skilled luthier scoop the bottom of your neck if desired.
