Another Stradolin Info Quest
This Stradolin received as a gift from a Friend, had belonged to His Father. Had it dialed in by an excellent Luthier and plays great. What is different on this than others I've seen is the ebony pickguard has abalone buttons covering the attaching screws, also the back of the neck has an inlay ( guess You call it ) down the middle. It's walnut and the bridge has a bone saddle. I've seen a similar model from a post from a few Years back that went for $200, but did not have these appointments. Will post pics, not seeing where to add
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Instead of "post quick reply" click on "go advanced". In the top right line you will see a paperclip icon. Click on that and you can upload photos.
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Thanks Charles, went to go advanced and not seeing a paperclip
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Click reply. Look at the little icons along the top. The third from the right is "insert image." Click on it. Click on "from computer." Add your photos.
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Thanks Eric, Tried the reply and don't see that icon. Using a Mac and Safari browser. Frustrating. Almost as much as trying to find the lineage of a Strad. Lol

It should look like this one.
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
I don't see any difference when I open it in Safari versus Firefox. It's right where pheffernan circled it. As I type this, it is directly above the "w" in "where."
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Thanks, but I'm not getting anything like that. When I hit reply j just get an empty box, no icons. Tried dragging and dropping, copy paste, export, nada. Could be I'm a mo ron. Do appreciate the help, as I would like to add to and learn from the knowledge base of the mysterious Stradolin Heritage

You have a Strad-O-Lin Artist Deluxe model. This catalog page was uploaded by Jim Garber to the Vintage Ad Social Group. There are also pictures of similar models in the Strad-O-Lin Social Group. Please fell free to add pictures of this mandolin to the Strad-O-Lin Social Group. It looks like you're missing the tailpiece cover. It would have been a standard Waverly Cloud cover.

Looks like a really cool mandolin. Boy, these Strad-O-Lins are really coming out of the woodwork in the last week!

Plays great not super loud, but fun. I had put it away thinking it wasn't staying in tune, but pulled it out the other day and it was fine. Had bought some better tuners but they didn't work with the headstock and I'm glad didn't change them as would have messed up the instruments vibe

Yes guess there are quite a few out there. Somebody locally had listed one on Craigslist and advertised as the "Holy Grail" of Bluegrass Mandolins asking $1250, not sure of the model but I think that would have been a record price. Think Mandolin Cafe gets a lot of inquiries as the origins are something of a mystery and there aren't a lot mysteries left with all questions usually answered with one search of the interweb

I would put it in the 30's. Jim Garber may know the year of the catalog it came out of.
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Thanks, I found some online ( now that I know the model name Thanks to Mando Cafe ) it listed as 1932. Now I just need to find a Waverly tailpiece cover :)
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Try to find the entire tailpiece if you can. There are very slight differences in the sizes over the years. They made them for decades. Harmony used them, Kay used them, and every body else including Martin and Gibson (on some models) used them. Many of us search eBay weekly to buy up old inexpensive mandolins to harvest the tailpieces. We had one member that was making reproductions but I don't know if he still is.
Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest
Thanks Mike, You're probably right about the "harvesting" as i don't see anything listed in the parts category. I see StewMac makes a one piece repro. I'll keep My eye out for a vintage piece though. I also have a Lebeda A model which i bought at a decent price off ebay some Years ago after reading comments on Mando Cafe. Haven't seen one for sale since , guess anyone who has one is hanging onto them as They are 1st class instruments
