Re: Blues on the Mandolin - Let's Hear Ya!
This is the best thread ever! I’m a beginner on mando and definitely want to add some blues to my repertoire. I just moved 1600 miles away from my band so my harp playing is going to suffer until I figure out how to play some blues mandolin or find another band :)
Mark, I’ve told you this before but you have the BEST blues voice to go with that excellent mando work.

Love it, Caleb! Such a heartfelt melody. I think the blues can be anything that gets us into and processing our challenges.
Thank you for sharing!

Some Skip James. This is “Slow and Easy.” So simple and so awesome!

Re: Blues on the Mandolin - Let's Hear Ya!
Gots another for ya’. This is Jimmy Reed’s “This is the Last Time.” The trick to this one was converting the guitar string bends to single mandolin notes. Plus, there is a lot of instrumentation happening so it was tricky figuring out the notes. Fundamentally, however, it’s a classic blues in G with four verses and ample space to solo or play some licks!

Re: Blues on the Mandolin - Let's Hear Ya!
Technically, not blues, but it fits the theme. A song about the blues as an emotion and how to pick yourself up and move on. Neil Diamond gets all the credit for the authorship :mandosmiley:

Wow guys!
Love it. The Neil Diamond sounds great, and Freddie King is one of my all-time favorites. Some sweet playing and singing. :-)

I’m with you Kevin— Freddie King is one of the all time best blues singers/players. Great version here!
Re: Blues on the Mandolin - Let's Hear Ya!
I couldn't leave this thread with out a tune from the man that's been teaching me since birth. So this is one of dozens of great blues made by Mr. Hank Williams. :mandosmiley:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z_hRlw4Irg
