Has anyone tried this?Im thinking of trying on my old black Gibson a4.
By "trying it" what exactly do you mean? Putting it on the fretboard or the finish?

Seems like if it could be used on violins it could be used on a vintage Gibson. However some folks advise caution if there are cracks or open seams.

I have used it regularly over Tru Oil finishes on my own guilds, and I also use it sparingly on my Lowden guitar, It gives a protective coating to the instrument. No problems and I have been using it for a few years now since a woodturning friend recommended it to me.
I have been using it for 30 years. Works best on non porous surfaces.
