If you keep it and someday want to sell it, you will Still have to discount it to the new buyer, or pay the $300. To cover the "flaw"for the new owner. Unless you got it dirt cheap, I say pass on it....
About sore fingers ..... At first you won't be able to understand how people play a mandolin ....... your fingers will hurt ....... fairly shortly after the hurt, you find the hurt bearable .........
Bottom - just as Jasona's photo - but I'd leave the fireguard off!
