To go with a recent post here of the Largo from "Spring". In Central Illinois we were socked with a late March snowstorm. Good weekend for indoor activity.

I have a good solid koa ukulele, but I got this Kala Makala used, I think for about $50 used, that I occasionally travel with. Workmanship is not the best, but hard to beat at the price.

My mandolin and guitar arrangement of Jay Ungar's 1983 classic "Ashokan Farewell," best known as the music of Ken Burns' "Civil War".

Valid point, but over much of that interval these instruments were not in modern, near-airtight, forced-air-heat environments. I would guess old school radiators (and I mean that literally, because...
Jeff and Mark, thanks. I don't sing much, so like most of my tunes, this is an instrumental. We visited Buffalo Trace last year, and I have become a fan and email friend.
The historical "Buffalo...

Well, you are using a Canon DSLR, and you can spell "APS-C" and "ISO", so it seems like you have a good handle on things.
This was a little film I did of the local folk and roots festival....

Shaker hymn arranged for unaccompanied mandolin. On days when three chords are too hard, I limit myself to two.

You can get by with a USB recording interface with more than one input to record both mandolin and voice simultaneously. I have the Scarlett 2i2 and use it with Garageband (it comes with a free...
I agree that they do tend to go noticeably out of tune more so than guitars, and seem to be more sensitive to environmental changes. Don't know if it is scale length or the relatively higher string...
This is the Olde Time Music Ensemble from Urbana, Illinois doing the Corelli Pastoral. It is an unusual group, with a trombone doing the cello part. I play guitar or mandolin depending on the piece....
You could get a lot out of your lesson experience by transcribing the pieces and exercises. I took flamenco lessons long ago from a teacher who did not read or write music. A lesson would be to go...
I use the rubber grommets. I think since they are not hard, they do not set up a hard vibration point (like a fret does), so they deaden the entire stretch of string between the bridge and the...
This is a mandolin-guitar arrangement of the Correli Pastoral. On mandolin, I am playing mostly the first violin part, with some drops to the second violin. The guitar arrangement is original....
This is M. Tessi's video with a link to the score. I have a few changes in my version, but have not written them down.

I think the 305 is one of those mandolins that, when the owner moves up, they keep it as a second mandolin because it is worth more as a second instrument than the $400 or so they could get for it.
A little early for St. Patrick. I used the arrangement from Mark Robertson Tessi as a starting point, then worked from there.

Me on a two-track mandolin recording of "Whiskey Before Breakfast", with some local snow scenes (but we are nothing like the East Coast as far as snow)

Buzzing could be lots of things. If it is coming from the tailpiece, Mandoplumb's suggestion should help. If it is between the bridge and tailpiece, it is likely overtones which may or may not be...
Thanks. The rotating decorations are German, although I have seen Mexican versions. They are called Christmas Pyramids, or the German equivalent. The warm air from the candle rises, and as it goes by...
