    Re: Gibson's 1923 F-5 Master Model Reissue

A discussion of $20k mandolins leaves out about 99% of mandolins.

Re: Can I say tap-tuning on MC?

I don't know much about the subject but when I saw the video of Roger hammering the tonebars of a mandolin with the top attached to the sides I thought to myself that can't be how Gibson did it since...

Re: Truss rod and carbon fiber.

I made a few A's with quilted necks and I used CF and a truss rod on those just for safety's sake.

I cheated and Googled it. A Premier/ Multivox from the 60's. That's Rosanne doing the harmony.

    Re: Mandolins too twangy

My soapbox issue is that the top shape needs to be smooth and flowing. Many new builders and I include myself in the early days don't get the recurve shape right. We go on about Loar graduations but...

    Re: Blacktop Friday

One of my early ones. Truth was I had gotten the wood from a Canadian supplier and when finished blonde it had a horrible runout problem and this was the only solution I could think of.

    Re: What’s Happening At Gibsin?

I should have said Hogan. Adrian drew what many believe to be the most accurate Loar print available. And he followed it very faithfully. I spent all weekend admiring the accuracy and detail of Don's...

    Re: What’s Happening At Gibsin?

If they only made a mandolin like the Hogo or the Jamie Wiens I saw this weekend it would go a long way toward justifying the name and the price.

    Re: Bill Bussman passes

On one of my earliest mandolins I foolishly tried to spray shellac and got the results you might expect. It was krinkling and checking where the player contacted it.
I saw Bill at some mandolin...

    Re: DW Stevens reverse mandolin.
