    Re: Necks

I know it was common practice in Guitars, my Martina 000-18 GE might be that way for all I know. But an experiment would be for my own curiosity becasue i just don't have the experience with...

Re: cnc and or router pantograph

Steve, I think pantograph is the same as duplicator in this thread (though pantograph can describe other devices as well).
I try not to underestimate other folks. I am also one of the guys who...

Re: How do I become a luthier?

I used to build guitars and lutes, back in about -1973-1977
I was in high school and then college.
I had no money, no internet, and only one book, Robert Sloan's Classical Guitar construction.
    I...

Plastic spline in fine instruments? No thanks!

I think your splines look super rugged, beyond the strength of new. Not really discussed here is that the grain in the spline runs differently than the grain in the neck, so the same force applied...

Re: Broken neck on Gibson Jam Master.

This is clearly their own fault, if either of them had drunk the beer the empty can would not have done so much damage! Leaving full cans around is not covered under warranty. :)

Very neat work! For a narrower mandolin neck maybe just one wider graft right down the middle of the neck?

Re: How to identify lacquer vs. varnish finish?

WARNING - ridiculously long reply ...:))
