    Re: Martin D18 Bridge Problem

There is the "right way" and every other way.

Re: 1981 Givens A3 Mandolin Used

    I bought an A-3 new.
Later I "upgraded" to an A-6.
Both were exceptional instruments in quality of construction.
I miss the A-3.. to my ear, superior.
  4. Re: I want to do an economic study of the careers of luthiers

I spent 25 years in the car biz, the first 11 were fun and rewarding. Then I became a Jr Executive piggie in the same profession but a "factory rep" for Euro highline car makers teaching auto biz...
  5. Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

There is such a thing as an instrument for free that isn't worth the price.
  6. Re: Does anyone have experience or advice about finger rehabilita

I had a very serious "accident" a couple months after I had returned to mandolin after a couple years break.

I was now a furniture maker. I shoved my right hand into a shaper.
    Gruesome would be...

Re: Distressed Mandolin and Regular Playing

Intentional "distressing" is a silly affectation.
    Just my opinion.

    Re: Nut Width Preference?

"Conversely, Jeff Hildreth has consistently posted that anything less than a wide nut is unplayable for him."

True then, true now. Anything less than 1 3/16ths is, for me, unplayable. I prefer...

    Re: Tipping a Luthier

    "I don't tip, I over tip."

Similar to buying friends and loyalty or jury tampering.

With respect to "tipping a cow".. have you.? 20 % ? , or is the cow the owner of itself therefore no...

    Re: Tipping a Luthier

By definition, that is not a "tip"

I tip the gas jockey at my local fill-up. He's out there every day in 30 degree weather at 6:00 Am.

In restaurants I consider 20% to be the norm and add or...

    Re: Tipping a Luthier

Traditionally tipping the owner of a business is NOT customary. Tipping an owner used to be considered insulting. Yes, I realize the world has changed and respect is out the window.

    Tipping an...

    Re: Astor Piazzola on Mandolin

I especially enjoyed the A style, sunburst electric pickup/controls mandolin. I am quite serious. Great music has been played on "unlikely" instruments.

Kudos to August Watters. An excellent...
  16. Re: Alison Stephens: Con Espressione availability

    Thanks for the effort Eugene.

I have been looking for this CD for quite some time.
I hope that her work will come to light, Alison is deserving.
  17. Re: Alison Stephens: Con Espressione availability

I went to Chandos web site ... they do not have "Con Espressione". However they do advertise that they "burn" copies of CDs. I sent them an inquiry asking if they had new copies of "Con Espressione"...
