  5. Re: 1929 Gibson A Mandolin with OHSC - $1350 (Poughkeepsie)

Obvious things to check: cracks, flat spots in the first seven or so frets, top sinkage, neck straightness and action height, tuning peg function, fingerboard wear.

    Decent price, especially with...
  6. Re: 1929 Gibson A Mandolin with OHSC - $1350 (Poughkeepsie)

The tuners are the same as its sister in the archive. I would imagine- and this was an extremely difficult time for Gibson, that there was a large inventory of instruments that had been made and...
  7. Re: 1929 Gibson A Mandolin with OHSC - $1350 (Poughkeepsie)

Its the real deal, heck I've seen Loar era snakeheads with white, gold, and silver painted/stenciled headstock logos. Case is period inside color also.
  8. Re: 1929 Gibson A Mandolin with OHSC - $1350 (Poughkeepsie)

That's a 30's headstock logo but as has been stated dates get blurred near the changeovers. Nice case.
  9. Re: 1929 Gibson A Mandolin with OHSC - $1350 (Poughkeepsie)

Paul Fox in his book mentions that The Gibson was changed to Gibson in 1932. However, I am sure there is a blurring to a degree when it comes to exact dates. If the mandolin was shipped in 1931 it...

    Re: RetroFret visit

The general rule of thumb is a mandolin costs twice the amount of a guitar of equal quality. So if you know what a $200 guitar sounds like, that'll cost you $400 in mandolin. If you have no problem...

No, no, no, that question is turned around the wrong way. The correct question is: what would I do without an OM?
