    Re: Eastman 305 string preference?

After reading this thread, I decided to try a set of flatwound EFW74 on my MD505. My 1st observations are: harder to install since the strings don’t bend as easily, don’t seem to stretch much, ...

    Re: Dunlop Primetone picks

I switched to the Primetone 1.4 picks about a year ago and think they are excellent. I’d be happy to pay $100 for a pick if I thought it noticeably improved my tone or playing. I’ve tried and...

    Re: Newb's first day

I started at age 56 as a 1st instrument and I am about 10 years in. For me a couple of years of face to face lessons, followed by group jamming has made learning and playing a lot of fun. Enjoy.

I started as well to play at age ~57, this is my 1st and only instrument. Eight years later, I’m still having fun, playing in jams, with friends and with a band. My goal, which I am still...

Re: Should I pay for damage caused?

If you were clearly at fault then pay.
But if you back into someone at a jam and they don’t have their strap on tight or they have a loose end pin,
    I think it’s a grey area.

    Re: Mandolins "Opening Up"

I like the term "player acclimatization" even though it has only been used a couple of times in the cafe and probably 1000 times less than "open up"

Re: Is there such a thing as a "Mandolin Culture?"

I think there may be a significant difference in perspective based on playing skill level. I started playing mandolin as my 1st instrument 5 years ago at about age 55. I can now read music and play...

    Re: Gilchrist Mandolins

I thought that mandolins should sell by the ounce. Since they weight about 1kg, a basic mandolin would be $6/oz, a Weber $60/oz , A Gilchirst $600/oz, a Loar $6000/oz, like gold and diamonds, or...
