Re: Mandolin Cafe Member Bogle Has Passed Away

Steve aka Bogle was a dear friend. I learned so much from talking to him about instruments and playing music together. I'm glad to have acquired one of his mandolins, a Ratcliff Silver Angel...

    Re: Virzi today...

I recently played two Loar’s side by side, one with a Virzi. There was a subtle difference with the Virzi, slightly sweeter.

    Re: Heiden vs Northfield GOM

I was at Carters recently and played that Heiden Octave. What a beautiful and well made instrument! To me the neck and action were so easy to play, and this is important for an octave with the larger...
  9. Re: Soliciting suggestions for my next mandolin (or not)

If you are looking for more bass the SA will do the trick. Mine has the strongest G strings I’ve ever played. I understand working with Ken Ratcliff is a pleasure and he can dial in the tone.
  10. Re: Can you help me identify this bluegrass song?

Yes Bogle, it sounds sped up to Chipmunk speed! 😁

    Re: Banjo-Mandolin ID

Allen, I could find no ID marks. Strung it up today with light mando strings, just 4 courses, to try. Plays well except for going out of tune easily. Might be better after the strings settle in....

Re: 200 Bluegrass Specials from Bill Monroe

I have this book. Many of the tunes are not in the original keys. The transcription is the basic melody, not the breaks. Still a nice resource.

    Re: New Dunlop Pick?

I've tryed the Primetone 1.5 triangles and like them, they are similar to the BC TAD 60, a little brighter in tone. Feels stable in the hand, and for the price an inexpensive sub to the BC's.
