  1. Re: AI and music: Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow and Jon Bon Jovi

I try not to get too bent out of shape any more about this kind of thing.

I thought the world was gonna end with Disco, but it didn't. Then there was the Designated Hitter, and Rap. Life goes on...

Excellent playing. Very creative, and it swings. Best version I've heard of that old chestnut.

    Re: new trend?

Who could possibly be interested in information that's over 20 years old? I am throwing out all my music theory and instruction books published before 2003. And my complete works of Shakespeare too!

There is a name for this kind of behavior, and it's not "kind" or "considerate."

Re: Using a capo with a mandolin?

Playing a mandolin with a capo just isn't done. Like playing a right-handed guitar left-handed just isn't done (right Jimi? right Albert?) or playing a bass guitar with a pick (right Macca?)

I asked Santy Claus for Jimi Hendrix's mandolin. Or at least his ocarina.

Long Journey Home, Blue Ridge Cabin Home, John Hardy, The Old Home Place, are a few of the ones that get played to death around these parts.

I am prone to this as well. I console myself by remembering that Michael Jordan used to stick out his tongue while driving to the hoop.

Re: Second chord in Old Home Place

I wouldn't call it a substitution. Going from the 1 to the major 3 is not uncommon in popular music. Georgia On My Mind comes to mind.

Yes, that, and a performer frequently checking their watch. I recently attended a show where the performer was guilty of both. I guess they were in a hurry to get it over with.
  18. Re: The Change That I See in Bluegrass Over The Past 20 Years.

It's easy for a guy who only has to tote an itty bitty mandolin to say the other guy should be shlepping around a humongous doghouse bass. :)

I don't like to make plans that far ahead. That's when they start throwing terms like "premeditated" around the courtroom.

(Can't remember who I stole that from.)
