My Leaf mando case weighs very close to my Loar case. The Leaf is no burden to carry.

In my experience, both stores are very generous in their time and encouragement to play things. Hats off to them both. Cotten is just as generous. Great shops!

I'm very familiar with the red spruce one at Gruhn's. I prefer it over the other Monroe Models I've played ....... (probably played a dozen or so to date).

The A-5 is a fabulous instrument with all the Loar tone. Tut was kind enough to let me play it about 20 years ago.

I may be wrong, but I'm thinking there are only two Loars with one-piece backs. I've seen them both. Have heard of a third but have not seen it.

I'd recommend putting the same monies into a more modern instrument. I've owned a '54 F12 that was modified by Randy Wood into a very good instrument. However, there are better tonal and quality...

I know of this mando and #73747, 7/9/23 that have one-piece backs. There may be another one out there. A rare feature amongst Loars.

As has been stated many times, the Loars were factory production instruments. Today's custom builders do a fabulous job for the most part on their finishes.

I had #26 Monteleone F-5 for sale as part of an estate I managed. It was a nice mandolin.

As usual, there is no "correct" to this discussion. Nobody doubts Chris' great talent, that is one thing we all agree on.

Folks ......... go back to the player as an equal component to tone. Many folks cannot pull tone, period.

Chris gets it done right.

JR could play anything and it would sound good. That RD sounds great ........ but not like a Loar to my ear. Not trying to be difficult, just my thought.

I think there are getting to be quite a few out there. Plus, there has to be a glut of mandos, guitars, banjos, etc. on the market. All could contribute to depressing pricing, imo.

I was fortunate to see Bill a lot during the Wayne Lewis period. He was/is one of my favorite BGBoys.
