I like it!
Sounds great.
Nice tremolo...ing.
fatt, always wanted a white A3 like yours. Any pics of your Gibson L-1? You have some very cool instruments.
I bet Dr.Cohen's redwood/walnut A5 sounds sweet! I remember talking mandology with him...
I have a couple Small Dog case covers. They are protecting my gorgeous Daffodil Pegasus F-style case and screamin' Tangerine
Pegasus A-style case.
A good case deserves a cover. Those 25 year old...
Dawg,at 75 years of age,Matt Eakle, and Jim Kerwin have played together for many years in supergroups of the Dawg genre.
They are all sufficiently talented enough jazz cats to know how/when to...
Yep. I'll take the andante version. The molasses-in-winter tempo sounds like a dirge.
Flatwound TI strings are an acquired taste I reckon. Nice to the fingers. Don't seem to cut in a group setting.
Tried mittel and starks. Sounded the same when I took them off as when new.
Tried(not very hard) to stay out of this discussion since I know so little of the topic at hand.
I am very favorably impressed with the knowledge and experience being shared here so freely....
That white Black mandolin sounds just right!
Nice pickin on 3rd Street Gypsy.
Can't help with your saddle question; but, since you mentioned NB strings,I have to ask if you have ever tried Monel on your guitar or mandolin?
I played phos.brnz for years and finally tried...
Been playing this tune for years. I guess I always thought Tim O' wrote it. Wrong!
But from listening to the more traditional playing of it(more like a jig?), it sounds like two completely...

Currently have the Mangan Monel custom mediums on my Derrington F5. My favorite strings on that Mando.
Those strings and a full-contact bridge are a good combo on it.
For me, Mangan and D'Addario...
I had the bridge-feet indentations on my F5. Got full-contact bridge. End of problem; and, helped my plains sing better.
I think John Reischman had the same thing with his Loar.
Nothing to...
Ordered the D'Addario Thile pick from Sweetwater a couple weeks back. Still waiting.
Anybody know the availability status of these.
Waiting to hear back from Sweetwater.
It's amazing what a nice new set of polished frets will do for your old mandolin.
Years ago I had Don MacRostie replace the fingerboard on my A-1 snakehead with a radiuses one, and install...
In regards to "like the sound of" coated vs. uncoated, and long-lasting or extra life/less string changes, all these traits tend to point to D'Addario and/or Curt Mangan Monel strings. They're not...
Common sense just ain't that common.
Very nice playing!
Love those mahogany Martins. The Levin has a pleasant tone.
Your tremolo sounds absolutely wonderful. There are many players who would be jealous of your skillful...
I just sent a member here on the Cafe a bunch of old(1950's?) Japanese clown barf picks and am guilty of taping them together to fit into an envelope. I think you can rub off most of the adhesive.

Nancy has been a musical inspiration to me for a long time.
I saw them play in Milledgeville,Ga. one night and was able to meet them and played "Sage Fields" on my mando for them.
They both...
Like a lot of others I have tried a running cornucopia of picks, changed my mind about some of them over time, gone back
and forth on what I prefer.
I like Wegens,BC,Red Bear casein etc. The...
I tried the XT set,but was already solidly hooked on Daddario monels. Standard gauge for me so far. May try the Bush gauges
at some pont. Their monel strings check all the boxes for what I want.

Your short list sounds like a good one.
Play as many mandolins as you can. Do road trips to get to them if necessary.
Choose the one that speaks to you personally and is most playable. Do basic...
Aaron,I agree with your assessments. I can use the Peterson ok but prefer the Unitune.PS,My first Unitune would eat a battery in a few uses. Sweetwater sent me a new one to replace it. Works great.
