Personally, I find GHS PBs (I use lights these days) and GHS Silk & Bronze to be much sweeter sounding than D'Addario J74s. Used the D'Doodlies for years. Of course, YMMV. Still suffering from...

I read somewhere that quite a few Gibson ovals had birch b/s.
