It is my belief that you don't JUST practice slow, but you have to do it ENOUGH and CONSISTENTLY to get excellent co-ordination between your hands, which is where quality tone comes from.
Specific surround lines from Barry and other players. See how players apply the items looked at in video 63.

I think you need to spend at least some time every practice playing slower than 50% of normal speed. You don't just practice this way, but you do need to devote a decent percent of your practice to...

As my friend, swing fiddle great Paul Anastasia used to tell me...
I prefer the oval over f hole for jazz playing. Much less percussive and makes jazz phrasing much easier to my ear. Plus I like the warm fuller sound.
I agree with Jim, learn as much as you can by ear.

I have a Mann EM5 with a single Lollar Charlie Christian pickup. These pickups are notorious for humming everywhere. My solution which works great, is an Electro_Harmonix HumDebugger.

2 Start on the root note of the chord and find one note between each chord tone

I also picked up an Art Studio V3 Tube MP and it is decent, though definitely not the UA 610. Will use the Art as a tube in front of my amp on live gigs.
I also found the 610 on Craigslist for...

1. The B on top with C and F# underneath sounds very jazzy, A D13 chord!
2. Everything you suggest works. Or improvise after the melody note, a common trick.
Copying solos DOES teach you the language of the music style. It's up to each player how "authentic" to the style they want to sound like, but if you do want to play in a style, almost every great...
