    Re: D’Addario Exp 74CM replacement

I think the XS are a lot better than the Exp74CM, which was my go to before the XS.
The XS sound better to me, and they last a really really long time. Like four times as long.
    Good stuff.
  2. Re: Eastman MD305 With Added Abbreviated Pickguard

Im not a big pick guard fan and don't use them, BUT I have to say that is a really cool design.
It looks really good on that mandolin, and blends in very nicely.
    Kinda sharp.

I saw him play solo in a small theater in Santa Barbara, and was surprised what one guy and a microphone can do with that little instrument.

I will guess Dunlop Primetone Semi-Round.
    Looks like it.
Shape and bevel is right, and the circle for the logo makes sense.

    It isn’t for me.
Not passing judgement on their musicianship or on the music, I just don’t enjoy listening to it.

Re: Just Ordered my First Mandolin, Advice?

I came to mandolin from guitar.
Some people tell guitarists to think of the mandolin as the bottom four strings of a guitar turned upside down.
Dont do this... It is a bad way to think about it. ...

    Re: New Mandolin Style

It is a super adventurous, interesting, and cool design.
However, surely the scroll shapes taking up huge real estate in the meat of the tone producing area of the mandolin will hamper tone.

    Re: Tailpiece

I have an Allen on one mandolin and a James on the other.
The James is superior to me.

The Allen is a nice tailpiece, and works just fine.

    McClung armrests rock!!
I have them on both mandolins.
Tried other kinds, but the McClung is the best shape.
    Low, smooth, and wide.
    Excellent all 'round.

    Here are my two.
    Love the dark one...
