Thanks for the reply. I would be glad to get together sometime. I see from your posts that there should be a festival in Palatka this month. I plan on trying to get there depending on the dates. My wife and I also get into St Augustine fairly often for music and food. I truly am a beginning mando player but intend to be able to join in jams as soon as I can. I find that there is a lot available on the mandolin cafe website. Thanks for the North Florida group. This is the first time I have tried to navigate a message board with lots of groups. I have posted in a couple of groups and I think I understand how everything works. Any suggestions are appreciated. I look forward to meeting you and others in the coming weeks and talking and making music.

I had a great time....pretty much always do. It's always good to visit with my old friends from CA (and other parts of the country), and to meet up with new friends (like you)! I enjoyed visiting with you and CJW immensely! It can also be a dangerous place for me however----though the temptation is always powerful to pick up a new 6 or 8-string jewel, the only souvenir I drove home with was heavy congestion from allergies! I hope you're doin' well, and that you have a terrific weekend!

I was wondering if you ever tabbed I will by the beatles? It was mentioned in a forum. That is both of my daughters favorite lullaby. It was a while back ( I haven't played or been on the cafe in a year or so and am just now getting a chance to get back into it). Thanks.

Yes that is my custom designed Poe. You can see more pics and hear a clip of it on Poestrings.com It is a fine instrument, good for all types of music. I don't know if Andy's taking any orders right now, but he is a master builder. Mine has a blond back and sides, and is a real piece of art. The top is Engleman Spuce, it has an awesome tone, not too tubby like some oval holes can be. You might search out a used A4 and try one to see if you like the sound.

I see you take part in the Poe forum. Is that a Poe in your avatar?

I don't own a hi-grade instrument, but I am very tempted to go 'custom' and request an oval-hole A from Andy. I play mostly for my own amusement, but sometimes with others, and hope to get involved in blues jams at a favourite wee blues bar here in Thailand. Blues is my music of choice, though I also enjoy folk and bluegrass.

I know that a lot of the blues mandolin players like to play oval A instruments; this is part of the reason why I am interested in getting an A4.

If you do, in fact, own (or have owned) a Poe A4, can you give me some impressions of it, or even a link to it on YouTube or on mp3 file?

If I am mistaken about you possibly owning a Poe, please accept my apologies. But if I am not mistaken, I'd love to hear back.

Hi Steve, the OLD Wave GOM has an incredible tone, plenty of volume without playing hard. I would say it's very resonant, much more complex sounding than a flat top trad. OM. It continues to amaze me, is pretty easy to play, and the shape makes it a dream to hold. The back is walnut, with snakewood binding, the neck is Cuban mahogany. Bill uses unusual woods. I was lucky to get this one as in was a demo model that Bill put up for sale at a reduced price.
They aren't cheap but a far cry from the trad. Flat tops that are out there.

Dang Teri, you have such good taste in mandos. I saw the pic of your Old Wave GOM - incredible! How does it sound? Can you compare the sound to a traditional flat top "irish" OM? I love what Bill does with that curly redwood. Mmm. Mmm.

What requ. are there to join? Does t cost money? O.o cause that's something I don't have haha. Nah I won't be able t omake it sadly my dad can't drive me, but some weekend I'll be at the nearest event. I am going to that jam on Sun. though. ty .

Hey . I don't want t oseem annoying talking to you so much haha. But I'm really looking for other bluegrass musicians and do you know anything about the, "Jamming in the park" thing or whatever in Ocala? If so do you know if they're bluegrass/folk or old-timey instrumentalist there? I was thinking about going to find out but I've heard it's all jazz. Thank You for helping out so much. - Joey
