About wormpicker
- Biography:
- I’ve been wandering my way around various stringed folk instruments for a while now. Started with bluegrass banjo, but couldn’t get my rolls rolling. Went to clawhammer banjo, which introduced me to old-time music, so, naturally, I had to pick up the fiddle. I’ve been fiddling since around 2007 (about 10 years, as of this writing), but if you heard me you’d think I started last year. Got intrigued with backup banjo uke for old-time music a couple years ago. I’ve had the good fortune to jam with and be inspired by some amazingly talented mandolin players. A couple months ago (September 2017) I had a dream about playing mandolin. I rarely remember my dreams, but this one really stuck with me. Within about a week, a good friend lent me one of his mandolins to try out, and I got hooked. Another couple weeks later, I bought (my first?...) mandolin, an Eastman 505 A-style with f-holes, and have been wearing my fretting fingers down to the bone. I think mando is also helping my fiddling, except that I have to transpose all my cross-A fiddle tunes to standard and have to remember to reach for that “high 3rd” G# on the D string.
