Many people like 1-1.5mm. But some like real thin, and some 2 mm or thicker. As you can see, mileage varies.

Fret precisely, short fingernails. Practice slowly, it is harder to get a cleaner tone with the small frets. No magic there, for me anyway.

You can build a 7 chord by either dropping the root or raising the 5. So 243x is pretty simple, so is 545x. You need the 3 and the b7, the 1 and 5...
