This is a lively Baroque gavotte by Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713), from the Violin Sonata in F, Op. 5, No. 10, in a setting intended for English country dancing -- as far as I can see, a very recent addition to the ECD repertoire originating with US-based dancers. There are a few videos online showing dancers using this tune. Recorded as a mandolin quartet (two mandolins, tenor guitar and mandocello), using an arrangement by David M. Brown (posted here). 1915 Luigi Embergher mandolin Mid-Missouri M-0W mandolin Ozark tenor guitar Suzuki MC-815 mandocello Martin
Great playing Martin.
Albeit suggesting otherwise in the title, it still sounds very Italian, but lively indeed! I like those drawings with dancers leaving ship's wakes.
This is my favourite of David M. Brown's country dance arrangements, and one we play very regularly at our weekly gatherings. Hence, I have included in in my lockdown recordings. Nice synchronization Martin - well played. Jaunty and up-lifting.
I enjoyed that a lot, Martin. And I realize what a great and large repertoire your group built through the years.
Thanks, Ginny and Frithjof. It's a really fun tune to play, and pretty straightforward. Frithjof: we're currently on about 600 tunes. People are starting to complain that their repertoire folder are getting too heavy to carry with them every week... Martin
